Chapter One: Introduction
1.1 Background of the Study
Renewable energy adoption is crucial for addressing energy poverty, reducing carbon emissions, and fostering sustainable development. In Nguru Local Government Area, Yobe State, a region with abundant solar resources, renewable energy technologies such as solar panels and biomass systems hold significant potential. Social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter, and WhatsApp play a critical role in creating awareness, sharing success stories, and encouraging community-driven adoption of renewable energy solutions. Research highlights how social media facilitates knowledge dissemination, fosters community engagement, and accelerates the adoption of clean energy technologies (Ahmed & Bello, 2024). However, the extent to which social media influences renewable energy adoption in Nguru remains understudied. This research examines the role of social media in promoting renewable energy adoption, addressing barriers and identifying opportunities for sustainable energy transitions.
1.2 Statement of the Problem
Despite the potential for renewable energy in Nguru, adoption rates remain low due to limited awareness, cultural resistance, and financial constraints. Social media offers a platform to address these barriers, yet its use in promoting renewable energy is not well-structured or fully exploited. This study investigates how social media influences renewable energy adoption in Nguru, identifying challenges and proposing strategies for leveraging digital platforms more effectively.
1.3 Objectives of the Study
1.4 Research Questions
1.5 Research Hypothesis
1.6 Significance of the Study
The study provides insights into the potential of social media to drive renewable energy adoption in Nguru, contributing to broader efforts toward sustainability and energy access. It offers practical recommendations for policymakers, renewable energy advocates, and social media strategists.
1.7 Scope and Limitations of the Study
The study focuses exclusively on Nguru Local Government Area, Yobe State, examining the role of social media in renewable energy adoption. Findings are specific to the local context and may not generalize to other regions.
